Chief Administrative Officer Gary Dyke issued the following statement on International Women’s Day:
International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrates the achievements of women and provides an opportunity to reflect on the contributions and accomplishments of women in our communities, in our workplaces, and in our lives.
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the contributions of the women at the Municipality of North Grenville who play important roles in serving our community.
I would also like to acknowledge the female leaders in the organization’s Senior Management Team. Ms. Heather Babcock- Cormier joined the organization in 2020 as Director of Legislative Services/Municipal Solicitor; Ms. Amy Martin is the Municipality’s new Director of Planning and Development, along with Director of Public Works, Karen Dunlop. Having more women in leadership positions brings diverse and exceptional voices to the senior leadership team. Our senior leadership is supported by a dynamic team of women who provide strong, diverse voices, and a depth of talent to assist us in shaping and strengthening our community.
This past year has challenged all of us. The COVID-19 global pandemic has brought increased stressors, along with financial and economic challenges, that have been felt across the community. And while the impact has been felt on all of us, so much of the weight and burden has been placed on women as they balance the demands and obligations of their work and personal lives.
As we begin to rebuild and recover from COVID-19, let us work together to build a community where families are supported, and women are free to choose their own path, without constraint.
In the spirit of International Women’s Day, let us recognize so many of the incredibly bright and strong women who help make up the fabric of our vibrant community, including mothers, business and community leaders, frontline workers, and our very own municipal staff.
