And just like that…the league season is over… well almost…
With a September of mostly cooperative weather, the Rideau Glen Ladies Golf League enjoyed our regular games, made a good showing at the Ottawa Valley Gold Association Seniors Intersectionals, and held our League Championships. Then we wound it all up with a month-end Fun Game, season-end celebration. Our final event of the season is the Halloween tournament in October, with boasting rights for costumes, and one last lunch before we all ghost away till opening day next spring.
The League championship saw twenty-six players vying for the big win. Warm, humid weather and heavy dew on the grass greeted us at tee-off, no counting on rolls for help. On the first day, nerves were high and everyone was excited to get started. On Day 2, everyone settled in quickly. Finally, the round was finished and everyone gathered on the deck to socialize, retell the best and worst, and celebrate. Our Champion this year is Donna Lush. Hers will be the first name on our beautiful new trophy;created for us by Maureen Fournier and her talented husband. Our flight-winners are: ‘A’ Flight 1st Place – Cathy Maur and 2nd Place – Marg McCornock . ‘B’ Flight 1st Place – Karen Whiteman and 2nd Place – Heather Pitt . ‘C’ Flight 1st Place – Cheryle Canning and 2nd Place – Linda Thomson. ‘D’ Flight 1st Place – Sandy Ochoski and 2nd Place – Daphne Stephenson.
For our End-of month-fun day and season wind up, the mood was high and the course rang with laughter. Play was followed by lunch, awards, prizes, and many thank-you’s to the Executive Committee which worked tirelessly to make our league fun and successful. Winners for the day were: 1st place: Front – Cecile Fortier; and Back – Jenny Thibert. Closest to the Pin: Front- Kelly Bakker; and Back – Nancy Curtis. Longest Drive: Front – Lynne Ferguson; and Back – Karen Whiteman. Closest to the target: Front – Margaret Chiakowski; and Back – Leslie Cheal.
Recognition for League members who made birdies this month goes to: Kelly Bakker, Leslie Cheal, Kathryn Etmanski, Maureen Fournier, Laurie Howard, Sheri Krofp, Donna Lush, Cathy Maur, and Heather Pitt. Ringer Board winners for this season were: 1st Place – Lorraine Dejong-Ellard; 2nd Place – Cheryle Canning; and Low Net – Donna Lush.
