During the afternoon of Sunday, October 3, 2023, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212 Kemptville held a Banner Unveiling Ceremony in the Veterans Memorial Hall for the 2023 edition of the Honour Our Veterans Banner Program.
This is the first year that banners will be raised in North Grenville by way of a partnership involving the Municipality of North Grenville, Branch 212 Kemptville and the North Grenville Historical Society. However, the individual banners are financially sponsored by the honouree, their families or neighbours.
Each Veteran, their families and/or sponsors were photographed beside their respective banners as a keepsake of the event. While waiting their turn, the attendees enjoyed light refreshments and the good company that Legion Halls are known for.
The Banner Committee members were extremely pleased in having Mayor Nancy Peckford and Councillor Doreen O’Sullivan at the event, who addressed the gathering concerning the importance of remembering the sacrifices of our Veterans.
The Honour Our Veterans Banners will be flown from light standards along Prescott Street in close proximity to the Kemptville Cenotaph from mid October until the week following our annual Remembrance Day Service.
The next Banner Campaign will commence in May of 2024 for those who may have missed this year’s application deadline
