“Autumn, the season that teaches us that change can be beautiful.”

Fall shows us change in all of its colorful glory! Here at Seniors’ Community Services we are continuing to change and adapt. As many of you are aware, we paused our social programs in order to protect everyone from COVID-19. To fill the gap in connecting with each other, we have added virtual and telephone programs. Seniors’ Centre Without Wall, which is over the telephone, has been well received. Each session is approximately 30 minutes and there is a specific topic or theme, such as trivia or name that tune. There is always room for more participants if you are interested in trying any of the programs; and we can also open up another time if the sessions grow too large. Virtual games, such as euchre, will be available to be enjoyed this Fall; let us know which ones you may be interested in, please. It will be fun to learn this new technology together.

Meals on Wheels, Transportation to medical appointments and Foot Care Clinics are continuing with the necessary precautions in place. The telephone checks by our volunteers are continuing, with the calls being made daily or a few times during the week – depending on when people would prefer to be called. And, to great reviews, Chris Morgan is continuing to call clients and volunteers on their respective birthdays by playing his guitar and singing happy birthday! People love to get Chris’ birthday call so much they have called us to say how much it was appreciated, and it is preferred over receiving a card signed by the staff. This is definitely a beautiful change!

We have volunteer committees continuing to work behind the scenes to look at new ways of providing activities, and looking at the possibility of new partnerships and services. The Board of Directors has worked tirelessly over the past several months and deserves so many accolades for continuing to move forward with the mandate of this organization.

If you would like more information, or are interested in trying out any of these activities, please give us a call at 613-258-3203, we would love to chat with you. Remember to check out our website and Facebook for any news and changes, as exciting things are happening!

Wishing everyone the joy of embracing change this Fall. And to keep in mind the words of Emily Brontë: “Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.” Please keep safe, and remember to be kind to each other. Until next time,

Susan
