Merrickville Food Cupboard, a program at Rideau Community Health Services, is excited to welcome the CP Holiday Train back to the village on Monday, November 28th, 2022 at 4:45 PM. The brightly lit train will stop at the East Broadway and County Road 2 tracks spreading holiday cheer and entertainment by Tenille Townes & Aysanbee.
This annual fundraising program has raised over 21.17 million dollars and over 5 million pounds of food since 1999 to help those in need. Although we were able to continue the fun virtually for the past 2 years the committee is very excited to see you all in person again!
The CP Holiday Train collections will assist the Merrickville Food Cupboard, House of Lazarus in Mountain, and South Grenville Food Bank (covering Townships of Augusta, Edwardsburg – Cardinal and the Town of Prescott) meet the ever-increasing demands of food insecurity in our communities. We would like to extend a special thank you to everyone for their generous support to their local food banks, especially over the past 2 years by going above and beyond. Food banks continue to see a rise in use in our communities with an approximate increase in of 25% or more among our communities. A report from Food Banks Canada states that the influx in need is a sign of inflation which is seriously impacts hunger and food insecurity. 23% of clients report that they are “eating less then they should” due to the rising inflation.
Please help us spread the word that the CP Holiday Train and all its wonder is coming back to the village by following the train on social media, inviting your friends and family to the evening and spreading the message about the importance of heart-healthy donations by using #HealthyDonations. Supporters can follow the CP Holiday Train on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @CPHolidayTrain. Use #CPHolidayTrain as you track the progress of the train across North America.
Thank you to those who are contributing to planning this event. The hard work and dedication ensure that all attending will have a safe and successful night!
