  1. Augusta Township has been working hard to maintain public access to meetings throughout the pandemic, virtually, and when it was possible, in person. They also revised their committee structure and added 2 new committees in the fall. Public comments/questions are encouraged in advance or at meetings, and they have initiated new e-newsletters too, to keep people informed. I have been so impressed with how a small municipality has been flexible and creative to keep the public informed and engaged through this pandemic. It is all about their commitment to their constituents.

  2. Katie makes some very good points which I wholeheartedly support. The committees of Council are here to support Council and staff not to hinder them. As Chair of the Merrickville-Wolford Environmental Advisory Committee, I am not only frustrated but also disappointed with Council’s lack of interest in soliciting our expertise. After all, isn’t that why we have volunteered to sit on these committees? It is almost as though we are a burden! Personally, I am very grateful for my affiliation with Sustainble Merrickville-Wolford where at least we have the opportunity to interact with the public. I give the Recycling Petition as an example! Council and staff should be actively engaging with committees, especially under these exceptional circumstances! We are here to help!
