The inaugural Patrick J. Maloney Memorial Bursary, offered by the local Knights of Columbus, was awarded to local St Michael High School graduate, Melanie Beres. The bursary was open to graduates from the four local French and English school boards. The award emphasized academic excellence and parish and community participation. Melanie was an Ontario scholar and is currently studying at Ottawa University with plans for an Honours BSc in Psychology.

Pat Maloney, who died in 2019, was born in Kemptville and while raising his family here, was actively involved in community and church activities, including Holy Cross Parish, the Lions Club, Kemptville Town Council, and the local council of the Knights of Columbus. Pat’s musical talent enriched many community functions and family activities, and so it is fitting that Melanie volunteered at the Sweetheart Brunch, where Pat played, and was active in Holy Cross Parish contemporary choir. Melanie had an impressive volunteer record in our local community. We wish her every blessing and success in university and beyond.
