The Municipality of North Grenville has launched a public campaign aimed at ensuring federal funding approval for the proposed crucial expansion and safety upgrades to County Road 43 (CR43).

The Municipality and the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville jointly applied for funding of the CR43 Expansion Project through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), a cost-shared infrastructure funding program between the federal government, province, county and municipality.

Significant funding has been committed by all other levels of government, including municipal, county and provincial. In order for this phase of the CR43 Expansion Project to proceed, the federal government must sign off.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to the Honourable Catherine McKenna in her new role as Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. I look forward to working with her and her colleague, the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of Rural Economic Development, on this critical investment. This project will foster continued economic development in the region, and provide a safe and attractive Boulevard for North Grenville residents,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford.

This phase of the CR43 Expansion Project will expand approximately 1.15 km of existing roadway to a four-lane Boulevard through the main part of Kemptville, including the addition of roundabouts and other pedestrian crossings, as well as improving the flow of vehicular traffic, and will rehabilitate the existing bridge across Kemptville Creek.

There will be improved lighting along the Boulevard to increase safety, and better service active modes of travel for pedestrians and cyclists, and the addition of trees will enhance the experience when traveling along the road.

“North Grenville is asking business leaders, community organizations, residents and neighbouring municipalities to show their support for this critical expansion project, and send a strong message to Ottawa,” added Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman.

The Municipality hosted the Leeds and Grenville Economic Development Summit last Friday, November 22, identified supporters for the 43 Expansion Project, and gave out window decals as one way to demonstrate support.

To provide regular updates on the 43 Expansion Project, the Municipality has launched a website at: www.expand43.ca.

The full expansion of CR43 will expand approximately 3.1 km of existing roadway to four-lanes, from Colonnade Mall through Kemptville to Somerville Road, and will include the twinning of the existing bridge across Kemptville Creek. The total estimated cost of the full expansion project is $27 million. The County has committed to securing the remainder of the balance of the project.
