The Municipality of Merrickville-Wolford is getting ready for the 2019 season of their Sizzling Summer Camp. Camp Director, Charlotte Hitsman, says they have lots of outings and activities planned for kids ages 6-12 throughout the summer.

Each week has its own theme. The first week, which begins on July 2, will celebrate the beginning of summer by exploring new activities, including scavenger hunts, and other adventures around the Village.

Other themes include Hollywood Magic, which will focus on activities based on favourite movies and characters, and Music Makers, where the children will have the opportunity to make their own instruments and compose their own original song. “We are working on a presenter coming in to teach us music,” Charlotte says. “That’s something really cool I think kids would enjoy.”

The camp will be using the Merrickville Community Centre as its home base for the summer, except for two weeks in August, when they will be using Centennial Hall in Easton’s Corners, as the Merrickville Fair needs the fairgrounds then. Several field trips are planned throughout the summer, including a trip to the Diefenbunker, the Kemptville Pool, and Saunders Country Critters.

Charlotte says they are also looking at adding a ninth week of programming this year, if the demand is there. Parents can sign their kids up for the entire summer, or pick the weeks that work for them and fits their child’s interests. For more information about the different themed weeks and to access the registration form, visit the municipality’s website.

“Last year, we had quite a few weeks at capacity,” Charlotte says. “I encourage people to sign up early, so they can get the week they want.”
