Re: naming of Kemptville Creek
As I understand it, we should call Kemptville Creek the South Branch because that’s what early surveyors called it. They also apparently called the river running west from Kemptville the West Branch. The obvious conclusion is that there are two rivers, the West Branch and the South Branch, which join at Kemptville to form the Rideau River.
Imagine the reaction of Merrickville residents when they are informed that they live, not on the Rideau River, but on the West Branch.
