The Merrickville and District Chamber of Commerce has announced that they have been approved for funding to improve local sales through a Shop Local Campaign “Rediscover Merrickville – Our Doors Are Open”.

The funding is being provided through the Government of Canada’s $33-million Shop Local initiative to help small businesses encourage consumer confidence as they re-open and work towards economic recovery. Ontario’s share of this funding is $9 million and is being delivered in partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Ontario Chamber Network. Activities eligible for support include campaigns to direct shoppers to local small merchants, and promotions of online shopping, curbside pickup, and public health measures being taken to make retail spaces safe.

The Merrickville campaign will include branding and the creation of digital content, as well as marketing through social media, radio and print marketing to our target audience, the local residents.

Robyn Eagle, President of the Merrickville and District Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are pleased to receive approval for our Shop Local Campaign at a time when our businesses are gearing up for a traditionally slower fall and winter sales period. ‘Rediscover Merrickville – Our Doors Are Open’ will highlight the local products, shops, and businesses close at hand – encouraging our residents to support local and stay safe, while not missing out.”

“Small businesses are cornerstones of our local economies, and key to thriving communities—creating jobs, driving innovation, and generating wealth for Canadians. Local businesses have always been there for us and need our business more than ever before,” said Rocco Rossi, President and CEO, Ontario Chamber of Commerce. “Together, with the help of the Government of Canada, chambers of commerce and boards of trade across the country, we can make a difference for local businesses and help move Canada’s recovery forward.”

The funding provided is to support businesses to promote local businesses and consumer confidence. Chambers will use this funding to support a range of activities that encourage consumers to shop locally in a way that is safe and aligns with current public health guidelines.

For more than a century, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) has been the independent, non-partisan, indispensable partner of Ontario business. The OCC’s mission is to support economic growth in Ontario by defending business priorities at Queen’s Park on behalf of its network’s diverse 60,000 members.

The Merrickville and District Chamber of Commerce’s small group of dedicated board and volunteers have focused much effort in executing the vision for Merrickville-Wolford businesses and events. A variety of specific and ongoing promotional strategies and renewed partnerships with the Municipality, the Regional Tourism Organization, Leeds and Grenville Economic Development, and other relevant groups, are bearing fruit and gaining momentum, the impact on the local economy is being realized.
