A service of Lessons & Carols will be held at St James Anglican Church on Sunday, December 8, from 7-8 pm. This service combines bible readings and Christmas carols and has been a family favourite since it was first held on Christmas Eve at King’s College, Cambridge in 1918.
The story starts with the departure from Eden, and continues with the hope of the coming of the Messiah, and then finally concludes with the story of Jesus’ birth.
Using nine Bible readings selected from Book of Genesis, the prophetic books, and the four Gospels, the readings are interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns, and choir music. Readers for this service are members of the St. James community, and the church choir will lead the audience in the singing of the carols. Also included are choir anthems for you to enjoy.
In all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, come away and be still for this hour-long event. Take a few moments to gather your thoughts and refocus on the Christ Child. Join us to sing some Christmas carols, and let the story of Christmas come to life, as you hear the dramatic readings and sing with the choir. This is a free event, and cider and treats will be served at the end.
