On Thursday June 17, North Grenville residents came out in droves to celebrate My Local Markets’ first birthday, and the first Outdoor Night Market of the season. On the grounds surrounding the Kemptville Campus greenhouse, residents browsed the offerings of over 30 local vendors and artisans.

Darlene Collin from My Local Markets, one of the organizers of the event, explained, “It’s our first birthday, and we have all missed some birthdays due to Covid, so we’re saying that we’re celebrating everyone’s birthday.” The event certainly had a festive and bustling atmosphere, with live music and a constant stream of people passing through the event. Catered Affairs was also offering a farm-to-table dinner, featuring the offerings from vendors, concurrent with the event.

COVID-19 precautions were in place. Only 75 people were permitted inside the large and open market area at a time, and each party was required to check-in for contact tracing purposes. Though this resulted in a queue for entry to the event, the mood was jubilant: everyone seemed ready to be out and about engaging with the community again.

Darlene said, “Our community has been beyond outstanding. North Grenville is a wonderful place to do business.” The evening’s turnout confirms this is the case. If you missed out on this event, you will have another chance to come out and shop local next month. There will be a Night Market on the second Thursday of every month through October.
