A new local currency is being distributed that can be spent at your favourite North Grenville businesses. NG Green will be distributed in the community starting in September. This currency can be spent at participating businesses. Visit www.LoveNG.ca and use the filter “Accepts NG Green” to see where you can dole out the NG Green cash.

This currency expires December 31, 2020, and is not redeemable for cash, and change cannot be given. NG Green is non-transferable and resale is prohibited.

The introduction of the NG Green Currency is a part of the Business Support Programs created by the Business Support Group which has informed the Municipality’s response to COVID-19.

A large number of businesses in NG were forced to temporarily close their doors in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the economy is beginning to reopen, many businesses still remain closed or have had to pivot their services, causing interruptions and operating challenges. The Economic Development team has worked closely with the Business Support Group, convened by Council and comprised of representatives from the four main business networks in North Grenville, to provide various programs including webinars, business outreach, and marketing opportunities including the #LoveNG website and campaign.

“NG Green is an innovative way to incentivize residents to shop local as much as possible,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford. “Many local businesses have stepped up during the pandemic to serve their customers in new and different ways, while facing enormous stress.”

“North Grenville businesses need your support more than ever, and this new local currency is a great way to keep your dollars in our community,” added Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman.

Residents can win NG Green through online contests hosted on the Municipality of North Grenville’s Facebook and Instagram channels. NG Green will also be distributed through random giveaways for people shopping locally.

Council has allocated an additional $150,000 to these Businesses Support Pro-grams. For more information, visit www.InvestNorthGrenville.ca/NGgreen.
