Sunday afternoon’s challenge with the Nepean Raiders was all one sided, as the Kemptville 73’s came out strong to post 3-1 victory.

Initial frame was a fast, furious affair, as each club had numerous chances, with Raiders out shooting their opponents 9-7 to remain scoreless. The second go around: at 10:22 Gaudet from Alavi, across to Alex Row to beat Frappier for first blood. Kirkby combined with Bastian, over to Victor Tracy who rifled in hot rebound at 9:21 for 73’s second marker. Nepean spoiled Hodgins SO attempt when Malcolm Arseneau, with helpers from Warnholtz and Sellars, ruffled the mesh at 7:23. Bastasin, with Beauparlant, attacked the zone and Jake Gaudet snapped it in from below the circle at 2:44 to put Kemptville ahead by two and close out with 23-9 SOG.

Final twenty was an even contest without any damage on either side, with both squads launching opportunities as 73’s recorded 8-7 SOG.

Kemptville 73’s out shot Nepean Raiders 38-25 for another win of 3-1, to move them up the standings.

Friday night’s game featured the Cornwall Colts on a 7-game roll visiting 73’s barn looking to add to their streak. Kemptville opened up, with Beauparlant flying up the wing, across to Tugnutt, over to Bobby Dow at :26 to bury the pass from Tugnutt to end period with Kemptville out gunning Cornwall 15-6.

Second stanza belonged to Colts, as they controlled the rubber disc to out-shoot the 73’s 16-7, but still remained 1-0 in favour of the 73’s. Final twenty: the Colts bounced back at 12:35, as Hodgins shut-down three attempts, as Brennan Markell finally punched in the garbage after Spink and Cooper swarmed the crease. 73’s stopped skating, giving an end-to-end rush for Dean Derouchie, after receiving tape on tape from Conrad, to break the tie. With time running out and EA, Tugnutt initiated the attack from point into Row, as he finds Adam Alavi on left side to force OT at :48.

Breakdown in 73’s zone, as Markell with Derouchie back to Grant Cooper just below the line to launch it home for the Colts win.

Just a reminder: the 73’s are on a push to play-offs and they would love to see you come out to support them on their way. Next game is Thursday, February 23, at 7:30, when the Brockville Braves are in the community barn……see you there.
